More Community Days

I really enjoyed the Community Day at Tech Ed Munich, and I think we should have more of them, and not just aligned with Tech Ed. Perhaps we could have 3- or 6-monthly Community Days more widely spread around the world?

I would really like to do a day, perhaps in April (6 months after Tech Ed) in the UK. What do others think? Anyone here from SAP UK who might be prepared to let us use some rooms? I'm happy to help with the organisation, and of course we can use the Wiki here to help organise the "unconference" sessions and to write up session notes afterwards.

Any takers for the idea, and for April in London?

Cheers,

Darren

Sounds great Darren. I think there is a lot of upside for this. I am not sure that I could help out (to organise) but would be a willing participant.

Clockhouse is not the easiest to get to though. Maybe a big SI in the city or other not so big SI's could smell a community sponsorship deal to lend a boardroom or training room or something.

regards,

Nigel

I'd suggest following a barcamp model for "little" community days. Check out [barcamp.org|http://www.barcamp.org/]. For the good results that usually happen, it's surprisingly low effort. All you really need are time, space, and enough interesting and passionate people to show up and do their "unconference."

There are barcamps almost everywhere, every week now-a-days, so it's easy to drop by one and get a sense for what they're like.

Well, we now have the time and space sorted out - we just need interesting and passionate people to sign on and turn up!

Details are over at [The SDN Wiki|https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/Community/CommunityDayLondon-April+2008] - thanks to all here for the constructive feedback. Now get signed up!

See you near London on the 26th April,

Yup, I'd be up for it in London, providing it's between Friday and Monday - some of us don't always know where we're going to be working two weeks from now, let alone 6 months...

A Friday could work well - it would allow us to arrange something social as an evening event (no work the next day), and would be an opportunity for visitors from afar to see London for the weekend too.

So, we just need a sponsor to give us the meeting space, and a sponsor to pay for beers in the evening... anyone from SAP listening?

Listening, listening and maybe its good to drag a number of my colleagues and teammates into the conversation who either a) design TechTour stops and are interested in working with local mentors and evangelists in each region and/or b) work with the local and geographically dispersed user groups internationally such as the VNSUG (Holland) DSUG (Germany) ASUG (US).

There is a group that is looking to global activity. Let me liaison with both the TechTour Team and Global user initiatives and see what they say. Grass roots usually don't have corporate sponsors at first to fit the beer budgets but still this might be an avenue of exploration.....
