Hi Aneez,

We have also started with such a project. You can use this link to setup CMS:

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/ab/6760b8d7b64b6eb74052eb5bdf1405/frameset.htm

It gives step by step instructions to configure it (this is what I used). I shall also post the links for SLD and DTR for you.

Hope this helps.

Puneet

Hi ,

Thanks all for the great answers .. and sorry for getting later to the forum . My JDI installation have good progress . Following is that what I had done sofar.

1. I have gone through the entire JDI installation guide .

2. I have deployed 3 + 1 (patch ) SCA 's through SDM .

3. Set up priveleges , roles and groups as per guide section 2.2 .

4. Preapare the SLD per the sction 2.3 in the guide .Here I had some issues .

a ) I already had registered my WAS J2ee and ECC ABAP sysytem in SLD using SLD bridge configuration . But in the last para of Section no 2.3 in the guide it says that I need to register the SLD server in SLD .Is this required ?

5. Configure the CBS server is done .

6. But I have found that there are two SAP files namely

<b>JIDE09_0-10002804.SAR , JIDE09P_1-10002804.SAR ( patch</b> ) for the NWDS . which one I should install on my local desktop ?

Pls advice

Hi Aneez,

Use JIDE09P_1-10002804.SAR file only.

Also just a suggestion if your WAS is on a higher SP please use the NDS corresponding to that version.

Hi RK ,

Thanks a ton for your prompt reply ...

I am reading the JDI installtion doc ..and I have some queries

<b>1. So do you think the SCA for pactches are not required even installation doc is also says the same

2. The link you have provided points to the same thread . Could you correct this .

3.Per your advice , I am going to install the three SCA into WAS ( development )in the client location through SDM and going to install NWDS in my local machine here and access it the remote WAS . As I am the only developer going to work on this , only my system needs NWDS . Is this assumption right ?

4. And once I finish my development in the DEV box , what is the mechanism where I can transfer my code to Production box ?</b>

Pls advice

Hi,

1.Yes please follow the doc, what ever it mentioned there(we are already installed its working that's why i suggested you).

2) Coming to link (if you are lokking forwebdynpro custom ESS).

logon to http://sdn.sap.com/web application server/

check in popular documents.

Developeing an HR home page with WebDynpro part I,is published.

3) Yes your assumption right since ur the only developer and playing admin role also.

4)Check this link

Answers your questions.

Hi Aneez,

1. The patches are required. You may need to install them also. Make sure you do them after you install them after the main sca file.

3. NDS has to be installed on all the developer's machine who are part of the dev team.

4. To learn the complete steps please go through this link.

Hi ,

You guys are really helpful and deserve good points ( which I already did ) . I really appreciate this .

I read the installation guide for JDI and found very use ful far I had downloaded the following things

<b>

1. SCA SAPBUILDT09_0-20000267.SCA JDI BUILD TOOL 6.40 SP9

2. SCA SAPDEVINF09_0-20000267.SCA JDI ONLINE 6.40 SP9

3. SCA SAPDEVINF09P_3-20000267.sca Patch for JDI ONLINE 6.40 SP09

4. SCA SAPDEVINFF09_0-20000267.SCA JDI OFFLINE 6.40 SP9

5. SAR JIDE09_0-10002804.SAR SAP Netweaver Developer Studio 2.0 SP9

6. SAR JIDE09P_1-10002804.SAR Patch for SAP Netweaver Developer Studio 2.0 SP9</b>

I have found that no patches for build and offline tool , is this OK ?

Also , below is my application scenario and pls advice which way I could go ahead .

<b>a ) We need to customise the Webdynpro based ESS application .

b) I have my WAS J2ee ( development ) running on one host and another WAS J2ee (production ) on another host

and all the machines are at client site . Is it ok I install the developer studio on my machine at offshore and access it remotely ?

c)Where do I need to install the JDI ..in my dev box or production box ?</b>

Pls advice . I think i have flooded you guys with questions ..I am sorry ..

Hi,

SCA SAPBUILDT09_0-20000267.SCA JDI BUILD TOOL 6.40 SP9

SCA SAPDEVINF09_0-20000267.SCA JDI ONLINE 6.40 SP9

SCA SAPDEVINFF09_0-20000267.SCA JDI OFFLINE 6.40 SP9

These three are suffiecient, once again i suugest to you to go through the installation doc, each and every step is mentioned therem you just follow.

1) If you are customising a webdynpro ESS application?

Check this link, which deals with why custom built ESS, if nead part II get me your emailID

https://www.sdn.sap.com/sdn/collaboration.sdn?node=linkFnode6-1&contenttype=url&content=https://

2)You can install WAS locally( local testing) and remotely, but in case of development each developer has to install NWDS.Installing JDI either at devlopement or production is based on judgement, which scenario you are trying to implement.JDI installed on Dev server can version your source code, same server can be used for testing also.I heard that CBS takes more space while building components.

3) See Answer 2).

HI ,

A quick question ..I have gone to

1. https://websmp205.sap-ag.de/patches

2. Then Support Packages and Patches-> SAP NetWeaver-> SAP NETWEAVER->SAP NETWEAVER ->Entry by Component-> Development Infrastructure

3 There I have seen the following ..

<b>JDI 6.40

JDI BUILD TOOL 6.40

JDI OFFLINE 6.40

SAP IGS 6.40

SAP J2EE ENGINE 6.40</b>

Here what to select .Can i select JDI 6.40 ? What is the use of JDI build tool ? What is the JDI Offiline ?

Hi Aneez,

It would be better if you go thru the Installation guide first.

The details are

http://service.sap.com/instguides -> SAP NetWeaver -> Release 04 -> Installation -> Installation Guide - SAP NetWeaver JDI

Go thru it first carefully.

Also this thread can be useful to you

Hi,

as I suggested, even Sidhart mentioned to go through the Installation guide

Installing JDI with the Software Deployment Manager (SDM)

Download the support packages from SAP Service Marketplace. You find them under SAP

Service Marketplace alias “sp-stacks” &#8594; SP Stack / SAP NetWeaver ‘04

The page SAP NetWeaver ’04 - SP Stack <number> appears.

Under NWDI, select the following objects:

• <b>JDI BUILD TOOL <Release> SP<Number> (SAPBUILDT<SP

number>.SCA)<patch number>

• JDI <Release> SP<Number> (SAPDEVINF<SP number>.SCA)<patch

number>

• JDI OFFLINE <Release> SP<Number> (SAPDEVINFF<SP

number>.SCA)<patch number></b>

<b>Deployment</b>

After you have downloaded the Support Packages above, perform the following steps:

...

1. Start the graphical user interface (GUI) of the Software Deployment Manager (SDM) on

the server where your J2EE Engine is running. You can connect to the SDM server

through the remote GUI by running the following command:

RemoteGui.bat from \usr\sap\<SAPSID>\JC<J2EEinstance_number>\SDM\program\

The login data is:

&#56256;&#56443; <SDM password> chosen during installation.

&#56256;&#56443; Port: 5< J2EEinstance_number>18.

<b>2. Deploy:</b>

a. On the Deployment tab, add the following software component archives (SCA)

to the deployment list.

b. SAPDEVINFF<SP number>.SCA

<b>1 Preparation</b>

April 2005 7

c. SAPDEVINF<SP-Number>.SCA

d. SAPBUILDT<SP number>.SCA

e. Select the SCAs and confirm the deployment.

The SDM stops the J2EE engine and restarts it.

f. Stop the SDM-GUI.

Result

You have installed the SAP NetWeaver Java Development Infrastructure.

Hi,

Here are the steps

1) Down load the JDI from

Go to http://service.sap.com/patches -> Entry by Application Group -> SAP Net Weaver -> SAP NETWEAVER -> SAP NETWEAVER 04 -> NWDI -> JDI 6.40 -> #OS independent

[make sure JDI version and WAS version are same ]

2) Check this Installation guide to install and configure

https://service.sap.com/instguidesnw04 (installation

guide)

3)Now go through the link.

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/01/9c4940d1ba6913e10000000a1550b0/content.htm. (Scenarios)

Do the preparations steps to use Sceanrio2+ and 3,

Scenario-1 is just using DTR.

(Recently I sent tutorial to publish in sdn which gives step by step procedure for Sceanrio-1 Simple example).

This Kickoff info is sufficient to Getting Started
