Serial number profile -doubt

hi,

in serial number profile for Procedure [ MMSL - Maintain goods receipt and goods issue],If i change serial no usage field from 03 to 04[automatic],system is showing error saying serial no profile no permitted to this usage type , why it is so,plz explain this?

Since MMSL is for goods issue and receipt system will not create the serial number automatically in most of the cases,for example if you are issuing any material from stores you have to say which serial no you are issuing ,

but there is also constraint because while making goods receipt for purchase order system can autmatically assing the number, iam also not fully aware of this ,if i got any suitable answer .will let you know
