Production Planning / Master data:

For Production planning, only master data shall be migrated to SAP. In the 1st Stage, there is no master data. Following is the master data elements relevant for PP:

- Bill of materials

- Routing.

- Work Centres.

Transaction data:

As of the cut off date, ideally there should not be any work in process. All the open production orders should be closed and semi finished goods should be dismantled and should be added to Raw materials. This strategy should be followed for all production orders where lead time to complete the production order is not large.

Since, the production orders are for longer duration and it is not possible to dismantle the product and add it to inventory, following can be the strategy for migrating the data to SAP:

- Create a material master for the work in process and set the standard price as the cost incurred for that product (ie. Work in process)

- Create a bill of material (which will be used only for this production order) including this material and other materials still to be consumed.

- Create Routing for rest of the production process.

- Bring the work in process material into inventory as of the cut off date.

- Create the production orders in SAP for the Work in process and issue materials to production order.

Complete the production process after the cut off date of the project.

1) Master data preparation and upload.

2) Creation of temparary production order to accomodate the production stage.

3) issue of raw materials to production order to represent the production cost/WIP and raw material stock

The above are the main activities so that you need to work aloge with other modules and see that stock, cost, G/L balance is correct as per the company fincial books before go live.

In detail....

It is difficult to say what you need to do unless we understand your business scenario ...but generally the following is valid, some items may not be valid in you business...

As you wrote Master data is already in place...you need to load transaction data into SAP

W.r.t PP the following transaction data to be loaded before running MRP as a cutover data

1. Open Production/work orders in shop floor

2. Open Sales orders

3. Open sales deliveries

4. Open PR/PO for raw material or Intercompany PO/STO

5. Open reservation from plant to plant(301) or cost centre(201)

6. Requirement in terms of PIR

7. Stock-UR, or quality or blocked

WIP cost – as a internal order

Now how to take the above data in to SAP depends on may factors not only PP, but also other modules.

Example - Open production orders...some people will create a CO internal order book the cost to that orders as it may not have greater significance in production planning as all raw material is already issue d to shop floor and just at the end of production. Some PIR need not be entered as PIR..instead can be entered as Sales order, and PIR's for the next month can be entered as a fresh...Like this stock also...we many not create quality inspection lot during cutover and have a manual entry using 321 and alter we may activate QM once upload is over - depending on the situation.

Please don’t take the solution as it is, consider your business scenario and discuss with other module...especially MM and CO to upload the data after you get a concrete decision from Client - what data need to be in SAP.

pl come back if required
