/usr/sap/trans/log cleanup

Former Member

I was looking at usr/sap/trans/log and see a lot of old logs.

I ran tp check all and it created a report

The report showed more than 8,000 log files that can be deleted in the usr/sap/trans/log

Can I delete these old log files or is this going to create more problems for me.

THanks

Joe

You can delete them if you don't need them

If in half a year someone asks you if a certain transport was correctly imported you're pretty lost without the logs. But on the other side: how often does this happen?

I'd take a backup and delete them.

Hello All ,

You can use TP commands for this issue.

tp check all pf=TP_DOMAIN_<SID>.PFL

tp clearold all pf=TP_DOMAIN_<SID>.PFL

Now you can check the CLEAROLD.LOG file.

You can check the following steps for the solution.

Clean Up Transport Directory with TP

Hi,

in addition to Mr. Markus

You can backup and delete old transport files every once in a while. Directories to be backed up and deleted in the /usr/sap/trans directory include: data, cofiles, log, olddata, EPS/out, EPS/log, and put/*. Note that SAP-delivered files can be deleted without backup; this includes directories such as put/exe, put/tools, and EPS/in.

also check following note

Note 16513 - File system is full - what do I do?

Note 16083 - Standard jobs, reorganization jobs

Hi,

it might be "the official note" for cleaning this up of interest:

Note 41732 describes how to proceed in detail ...

Maintain the TP Parameters e.g. as follows:

(for the area "ALL"!)

datalifetime=30

loglifetime=60

olddatalifetime=60

cofilelifetime=30

- ensure, that /usr/sap/trans/olddata exists

- cd /usr/sap/trans/bin

- tp check all pf=< transport_profile >

- tp clearold all pf=< transport_profile >

... but I typically use the "manual aproach" with just deleting old stuff as well )
