CA Forum: Migration to XI R2

I want to install CR XI (Developer) and also VS2005 on my computer. I often create stand alone Crystal Reports and I also create Crystal Reports within Visual Basic projects, and my "Stand Alones" never intertwine with my VS Projects. I do not want to use CR XI R2. Will I be able to run CR XI side by side VS 2005 without registration problems? Do I need to do something special when installing them?

Thanks,

~Darryl

VS2005 ships with a bundled edtion of Crystal Reports - v10.2. Visual Studios 2005 is not compatible with CR XI (v11.0). This is because of changes made in Visual Studios for things like the 2.0 framework. If you install CR XI (v11.0) onto your VS2005 machine it will not integrate properly.

If you want to develop with VS2005 and a full version of Crystal Reports you need to use CR XI R2 (v11.5) or the new CR 2008. These are the only stand alone versions of Crystal Reports that will integrate properly for a supported development environment.

Also note that VS2008 will only integrate with CR 2008 with SP0.

I hope this helps.

You may try to open a case with our ERQA -crystal team or DEV .net. If we can reproduce this in house then we could likely escalate it for a fix.

That's just wrong that the 2 shouldn't be sharing anything. I'd consider opening a case with us and Microsoft, something isn't right.

Sometimes when we have side by side issues with our own product's they can be resolved by changing the order in which they were installed. I'm not sure why crystal is overwriting VS GAC, but if you don't want to pursue getting it fixed you can try that.

Hey Tim,

F.Y.I. I tried running CR XI side by side with Visual Studio 2005 (containing just CryRpt.Net (~CR10.2.36)), and it did not work satisfactorily. When I published my project using "Click-Once" deployment, Visual Studio put ~CrystalDecisions.Enterprise.Framework\11.5.53..., and ...InfoStore\11.5.53.. ~~into the GAC. It did not put in the ...10.2.36... versions. Therefore, from past experience, I'm pretty sure that would mean that clients will need the ~XI framework installed on their machines.

This is not the direction I want to go. Therefore I have removed Crystal Reports XI from my machine and I will try using CR 10 developer side by side VS2005 instead.

Thanks,

~Darryl

VS 2005 = Microsoft Visual Studio 2005?

Since we don't write VS there shouldn't be any shared reg keys, files, etc? This should work fine and so should CRR2 for that matter

Tim
