SAP Migration - homogenous or heterogeneous?

Former Member

Dear all,

We are planning to perform SAP 4.7 server migration from Sun Solaris/Oracle to HP-UX/Oracle.

Below is the detail of source system:

Operating system: SunOS 5.9 Generic 117171-12 Sep 2004

SAP kernel release: 640 with patch level 104

RDBMS: ORACLE release 9.2.0.6.0

Target system:

Operating system: HP-UX 11

RDBMS: Oracle version 9.2 or 10

Do we have to perform heterogeneous system copy (database export/import) or we can do it with homogeneous system copy - Oracle specific procedure (database backup/restore)?

Please kindly advise.

Best regards,

Rolando

Hi Rolando,

you have to do an heterogeneous system copy.

You can go directly to oracle 10 in target system.

The migration of production system must be executed by an OS/DB migration certified person and you have to activate the OS/DB miration service on SAP.

Thanks Stefano.

Just curious since Sun and HP are both UNIX based.
