Product and SWCV best practice

We have a 3rd party Product that tend to change product versions

frequently as once in 3-5 month.

as SAP Software logistics mechanisem is based on hierrachy of

Product->product version->SWCU->SWCV

My quesion is :

what is the best way to maintain this Product versioning in the SLD and IR,

To allow best practice of software logistics in XI and maintanance?

Please share from you knowledge and expiriance only.
