Day 3: Thursday (final day)

PMC201: Introduced some new features of Portal 7.3, like BP installation, new content / roles creation wizards , better integration with IBM WebSphere , AJAX Framework Page. The new role wizard will simply the creation and maintenance of roles in the portal. Finally AJAX will be part of the SAP Portal world.

ALM209: Your end-users are opening calls because access to SAP is slow? Maybe you should use one of the solutions presented here. They all increase the latency between SAP and the end-user. As the performance improvements presented were amazing, at least for the portal part I can say: it helps to clean up the standard SAP HTML code and to leverage existing caches to increase the performance drastically.

CD116: Introduction to what on demand means to SAP, what they are already offering and what they plan offer. http://www.ondemand.com/

CD212: Overview of the infrastructure and technologies in use at Newell Rubbermaid (FPN, AD, Web Dispatchers, load balancing, quite complex) and why they decided to mobilize some steps from a workflow and how they did it: Blackberry application that calls the portal URL that loads a JSP page. Behind the JSP page is the UWL API. Really good session. One of the key takeaways was that you have to decide what step in your workflow you want to mobilize. It doesn't make any sense to bring the whole process 1:1 to the mobile. It only will work for specific tasks. What I missed: how to adjust the JSP page so that it will also work on other mobile browsers like Android and Opera. As the default portal JSP also loads the portal overhead (javascript, CSS) why didn`t they opted to write back some cleaner HTML code to the mobile.

EXP521: The SCN moderators detailed what their job is, how they deal with abuse reports and what leads to be guestified. SCN moderators are mostly from SAP, the Product Manager is looking into the forums and it`s a job I wouldn`t do: >80 mails a day, check every post for abuse, etc. etc. etc. We than switched to the quality of the forums and as everybody agreed that the quality could be higher, there is still a difference between some forums. So if you are active in a forum with a low quality this doesn`t mean that SCN is of low quality. SAP and the Moderators are aware of the problem and are working on the topic.
