Last week the buds on the trees in my backyard were barely turning to leaves; and as I made my way to the airport the snow was still falling. It doesn’t feel quite like spring – but somehow it’s time for SapphireNOW!

Gearing up for the event, I spent the weekend preparing sessions and rehearsing demos that showcase several SAP HANA Cloud Platform services.

You may have heard that SAP Fiori, cloud edition became available in late Q1. This week we also are announcing the HCP mobile service for SAP Fiori. This was created to help drive innovation on the cloud while taking full advantage of the stability of your on-premise investments.

First lets recap SAP Fiori, cloud edition. This is a simple deployment option for the SAP Fiori UX on HCP. You can now enjoy a full demo-to-production cloud environment to experience, extend, and run SAP Fiori apps and SAP Fiori launchpad. Of course, you still consume business data from your on-premise SAP Business Suite software. This hybrid architecture reduces  implementation and ongoing operational costs, and gives you a consistent UX optimized for desktop and mobile devices.

  • While at Sapphire, you can catch many sessions, pop by our booth at DE417 for a demo, or read more from Aviad Rivlin about what’s going this week at the show.

The latest addition to SAP Fiori, cloud edition is the new HCP mobile service for SAP Fiori. I’ve written a lot over the past few months (including here) about this topic. I believe strongly that mobile and UX are two sides of the same coin. That’s why we are providing extended mobile capabilities via SAP Fiori, cloud edition - you simply can't have a strong UX solution if you don't consider your mobile users! With this service you can optimize SAP Fiori apps (both on-prem and cloud apps) for mobile use. This lets you simplifying the way you package, customize, secure, connect, test, distribute, and monitor SAP Fiori mobile apps.

Customers and Partners Agree

I have connected with many customers and partners about all of the news shared above. So many people have been sharing their opinions on the items above. Here is a collection of a few quotes worth reading.

Gareth Ryan, Enterprise Architect, AgilityWorks Ltd (UK) and SAP Mentor said “SAP Fiori, cloud edition helps us to simplify our customers’ infrastructure in the cloud, while still allowing for easy integration with their on premise back-office systems.  As an App Development Partner, this model frees us to focus on developing great new SAP Fiori apps as part of our broader UX-led services, which help us to re-imagine the entirety of a client’s business.  Removing many of the infrastructure limitations accelerates our time to deliver, enabling us and our customers to concentrate on what matters most – the user experience.”

SAP partner Mindset Consulting developed an SAP Fiori cloud app, called SAP Fiori – BW Query that visualizes SAP BW data in a Fiori experience. One of their customers, a senior manager at a top home renovation retailer said, “BW for Fiori has allowed us to easily build visually appealing reports for our stores while staying true to the SAP Fiori standards. Once we had our BEx Queries ready, all we had to do was configuration. We never thought building Fiori-looking reports could be that easy. Not just that, these cool looking reports are also mobile-enabled.”

An SAP Customer in the manufacturing industry explained, “Providing a great user experience is a very high priority for us as we begin to deploy SAP Fiori apps largely on mobile devices. SAP Fiori, cloud edition simplifies our SAP interface for simple transactions that will help improve user productivity and experience.  We want to make it as simple as possible for our users to interact with SAP Fiori from any device.”
