As organizations embrace cloud solutions, application integration continues to be an area of focus for customers to maximize the value of their cloud solutions and their on-premise systems.

SAP HANA Cloud Integration (we shall now just call it HCI) provides a way to integrate your applications with each other, be it on-premise or cloud applications. An example - You want to integrate your SAP ERP application with the SAP Cloud for Sales application that you have brought.

The first set of projects are underway in the SAP HCI space, and I think it is a good time to get a closer look inside HCI.

Pre-defined set of Integration Packages

Pre-defined content allow you to quickly realize new business scenarios by connecting various on-premise and cloud applications.

HCI comes with a prepackaged set of integration content. You have integration flows that connects SAP CRM and Cloud for Sales, SAP ERP with Could for Sales, SAP HCM and SuccessFactors applications, and the Financial Services Network (connecting corporate and banks). The integration packages can be easily discovered using a Web-based catalog that comes with every instance of HCI. Once you select the integration package, you can select and deploy them onto your HCI tenant.

The time-to-value is greatly decreased with this prepackaged content.

Under the Technology Hood

HCI is designed for a future-proof cloud. We have a flexible and powerful messaging pipeline along with enterprise tools for administration, monitoring, and security; all ensuring a highly flexible and secure messaging pipeline.

For integration developers we provide plugins, which are installed on an Eclipse IDE, to model integration flows. The first set of adapters provide various connectivity options such as SOAP, SFTP, IDOC, and even readily connecting to applications such as SFSF.

Infrastructure, Upgrades, and New Features

An instance of HCI can be provisioned in minutes.

To cater to the demands of an on-demand world, the infrastructure built for HCI supports elasticity, an up time of 99%, fail-over, and load balancing capabilities. The infrastructure leverages the services of SAP HANA Cloud platform.

A really groundbreaking release-strategy is that we have an upgrade time frame of every month, where new features and capabilities find their way into your HCI instances.  So, you can take immediate advantage of the offerings. What’s better - the upgrades are seamless (near zero downtime) - you need not worry about it all, and we ensure the integration flows that you have developed always run. So, if a develop-and-forget strategy suits your business, then you are all game with HCI!

In my next blog, I shall go a little deeper into our infrastructure capabilities and explain more on the fail-over and elasticity offerings of HCI.
