At HANNOVER MESSE 2015 (Hannover Fair) a few months back, SAP featured an Industry 4.0 showcase for Responsive Manufacturing live on the show floor.  This co-innovation project including Festo, Elster Kromschröder, and SAP showed the future production scenarios managed and orchestrated with software solutions from SAP Manufacturing.

The Hannover Fair is the world’s largest and most important industrial show.  More than 220,000 attendees representing 6,500 companies from 70 countries caught up on the latest industrial technologies in order to make key investment decisions to improve their companies.  The main vision of the show was the "intelligent factory."   Festo, Elster Kromschröder, and SAP displayed an impressive, open, integrated, and smart digital factory where information was seamlessly exchanged between machines and products, ensuring optimal results and peak efficiency.  In addition to the incredible efforts of the co-innovation customers, SAP also had tremendous support from partners including:  IGZ, SALT, Systema, as well as Trebing + Himstedt.

The show placed a major emphasis on the digitization of manufacturing as well as on human-machine collaboration, innovative subcontracting solutions, and intelligent energy systems.  The large crowds participating in guided tours of the SAP booth validated the importance of digital manufacturing, augmented reality, as well as Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things.  The enthusiasm of the attendees taking the guided tours made it very clear that Industry 4.0 is an extremely hot topic for industrial sectors and that digitization is a key driver revolutionizing the future of manufacturing.

Watch the video below to learn how SAP ERP runs integrated and seamlessly with all operations and how SAP Manufacturing Execution (SAP ME), SAP Manufacturing Integration and Intelligence (SAP MII) orchestrate the workstations by connecting ERP2PLC with Plant Connectivity (SAP PCo).  Some of the processes that were shown in this "mini-factory" at the Hannover Fair included:

  • Sales:  multi-channel creation of electronic sales order > configuration of individual product parameters with pricing quotation.
  • Supply Chain:  SAP ERP sales order created and MRP run > planned order creation to balance supply and demand.
  • R&D / Engineering:  realize changes in design > adjust individual requirements in drawing and create CNC program that is attached to the order.
  • Manufacturing:  execute production orchestration, coordination and documentation with SAP MES for standard products and configurable products.
  • Business Intelligence:  real-time analytics across all operations, departments, and disciplines from the top floor to the shop floor.
  • Transportation & Logistics:  confirmation of production > integration to SAP Connected Logistics including materials management and warehousing.
  • Aftermarket Service:   predictive analytics for big data > discover patterns and define maintenance and service to enable very high performing assets.

SAP, co-innovating with amazing customers like Festo and Elster Kromschröde, is passionate about helping industrial manufactures run simple by intelligently connecting machines, people, and processes.  And a big thank you goes out to our partners IGZ, SALT, Systema, as well as Trebing + Himstedt for helping make the 2015 Hannover Fair a great success.
