In this SAP TechEd strategy talk Michael Lynch shares SAP's point of view on the Internet of things (IoT), how the markets are shaping up and how  SAP solutions for Big Data, in-memory computing, predictive analytics, complex event processing, and manufacturing integration and intelligence (MII) are making the Internet of Things real for customers today.

Internet of things is not just another big trend: it is the big thing and it's getting bigger. The number of connected things is expected to grow to 50-75 billion by 2020. The long-term impact of the Internet of Things (also known as IoT and Industry 4.0) is huge.

The Internet of Things is not only about the technology that enables it.  It has the potential to change human behavior. What makes us human is the ability to get insight and to drive action through insight, Data and insights from millions of connected things will make us more human and help us make the world better. We have the opportunity to transform how the world works and to change every aspect of our lives.

For customers and partners, the real question is how to drive real business value, how to make brand loyalty stronger, how to drive better top line revenue, improve profitability, and how to make the virtual organization run more effectively globally.

SAP has the most comprehensive portfolio of Internet of Things solutions that will help customers seamlessly onboard the IoT revolution.  Michael shares real-world examples of SAP customers who are early adopters of the IoT. These companies have not only gained significant ROI by improving key business processes and operational efficiencies, but they have also achieved high levels of innovation by creating new products, services, and business models.
