The first quarter of this year was very busy with educational and Early Talent oriented events for us. SAP Labs Bulgaria continued its successful cooperation with the best Bulgarian universities and made new partnerships.
TTT Big Data for university lecturers, January 14-16th
SAP Labs Bulgaria hosted a three-day TTT course on Big Data (SAP HANA). The course was attended by 14 university lecturers from various Bulgarian universities, current and prospect members of the SAP University Alliances. The course was held from 14th to January 16th, 2015 at the office of SAP Labs Bulgaria in Sofia. The course gave an overview on Big Data, the current trends in the domain, as well as how SAP addresses this challenge. The course content covers topics such as: Big Data, In Memory, Business Intelligence (BI), Streaming, SAP HANA, HANA Cloud Platform and others. Only a month after the course it was integrated in the program of one of the biggest universities in Bulgaria – Sofia University.
Jordan Jordanov, one of the local mentors at the training, shared his impressions:
“We tried to include numerous and diverse content in the lectures to be able to cover the topic at least partially, because it is definitely vast. The discussions that we had with the participants, as well as the requests for regular updates with newer and complementary materials, were just some of the signs showing that we have grabbed the attendee’s interest. My expectation is that within a year most of the presented universities will use these materials in practice and will enrich their programs with a new course in the field of modern technologies.”
Graduation Ceremony at Technical University – Sofia, February 10th
Stoyan Velev, manager at SAP Labs Bulgaria, and Stamen Kochkov, Chairman of the Bulgarian Association of Software Companies, official representative of SAP Labs Bulgaria within the association, were official guests at the Graduation Ceremony at the Faculty of Computer Systems and Control of Technical University - Sofia
The Dean awarded a honorary diploma and statuette to SAP Labs Bulgaria representatives for significant contribution to improving cooperation between the Faculty and the IT sector in Bulgaria.
Student’s visit at SAP Labs Bulgaria office, February 24th
SAP Labs Bulgaria welcomed at its office students medalists from the CompMath competition. CompMath is the last stage of the Bulgarian National Student Olympiad on computer sciences and mathematics. SAP Labs Bulgaria provided prizes for the top three places in Group A - mathematics, informatics and computer science at the competition in November 2014. Biser Tsvetkov and colleagues from the SLB Education Community gave a tour at SAP premises, presented the company and discussed with the students various topics like Big Data, Internet of things and Cloud computing.
I Engineer - March 11th
SAP Labs Bulgaria supported this year’s edition of “I Engineer” conference - an event attended by 700 professionals, students, young innovators and amateurs who wish to meet –up and participate on workshops on different technical topics and try to solve specific business challenges. At the company’s booth students were able to learn how to build a web application that looks the same in any browser and on any mobile device.
Our SAP colleagues presented the changing paradigm in the development of business applications, penetration of cloud computing and how it opens a new page in IT history.
Open lecture for students from UNSS - March 25th
SAP Labs Bulgaria and SAP Bulgaria hosted a lecture for students from University of National and World Economy, Sofia. The goal of the event was to share with students new trends in business software and showcase SAP key products.
The lecture was attended by more than 40 students from the Bachelor program Business software. The colleagues from SAP Bulgaria Alexander Nestorov and Dimitar Tsvetkov, told interesting facts about the company and presented the latest developments in the industry such as in-memory computing and Internet of Things. Students were active and asked various questions particularly about SAP HANA and SAP ERP, as well as the typical task of a SAP consultant.
Guests at SAP d-kom Sofia 2015, March 19th
Part of the local d-kom event in Sofia this year was open to external guests. More than 50 students and teachers from the best Bulgarian universities, which SAP Labs Bulgaria has close cooperation with, were invited to join d-kom Sofia. The guests had the opportunity to learn exciting things about new technologies and network with software specialists. The professors and students were really pleased with the opportunity to attend such conference, 94% of them gave the feedback they learned something new and would be really happy to be invited at such event again.
BEST Engineering Week (BEW) – March 23rd – April 2nd
For third consecutive year, SAP Labs Bulgaria took part in the BEST Engineering Week. BEW is a week-long competition organized by student organization BEST Sofia in partnership with various companies in telecommunications, computer science, electronics, energy, food and other. The event includes series of competitions where students participate and show their knowledge and creativity. During the opening on 23 March our colleague Dyanko Dyankov presented the company and the opportunities for internship at SAP Labs Bulgaria.
There were about 150 attending students, from which 12 were selected to work of a special task, prepared by SAP Labs Bulgaria. They had to demonstrate innovative thinking, teamwork and create a comprehensive solution that has architecture and cool design. The students were given the opportunity to visit the office of SAP Labs Bulgaria, present the results of their work and win a special prize. During the closing of the event, Kiril Stoyanov awarded prizes to the winners and guided all participants about future career development.
Lessons on leadership, March 26th, Technical University Sofia
SAP Labs Bulgaria and Teach for Bulgaria Foundation with the assistance of the Career Center at the Technical University of Sofia, organized an open lecture “Leadership lessons with Radoslav Nikolov” – Managing Director of SAP Labs Bulgaria. Mr. Nikolov talked about the challenges which faces every leader - How to manage a team of more than 200 people? What are the most difficult decisions that leaders have to take? What qualities should a successful leader and how to develop them?
SAP Labs Bulgaria in cooperation with College of Telecommunication and Post, March 26th
At an official ceremony SAP Labs Bulgaria Managing Director Radoslav Nikolov and prof. Dimitar Radev, Rector of College of Telecommunications and Posts signed a contract for cooperation. Both sides expressed their commitment to deepen partnerships in the field of education. Faculty members already had the chance to participate in 2 of our TTT workshops on Big data and Cloud computing. At the event students were also able to get acquainted with SAP at our company booth on the campus.
