On Friday July 16th, 2015, University Alliances team organized half-day visiting at SAP Labs China for 80 students and 1 teacher from School of Software Engineering, Tongji University, together with Vocational Training and Early Talent.

SAP UA has a long-term collaboration with Tongji University, there are a lot of students coming to visit SAP Labs each summer. Lecturer Ji, took a group of 80 freshmen students of School of Software Engineering this time. Everything was new to them, they were looking forward to the fantasy tour.

The students were invited into a hall in PVG06, where they would be given a series of speech. First, Josie, Program Manager of University Alliances, gave an introduction on SAP and SAP in China. She explained to everyone ”what is SAP” and ”what dose SAP do” by using simple words. And she gave examples of where SAP Technology applied in every walk of life, such as athletic footwear, beer, movies, banking, F1 racing, football and many more industries. Then, the prize quiz caught everyone’s attention, and everybody answered enthusiastically. Three lucky person gave the closest answer and won the prize. I’m sure they will remember the SAP’s big influence about other industries by this game.

After the overview of SAP, Richard, Program Manager of Early Talent, gave a speech about career development with SAP. This is important and useful that everyone was extremely curious to know more in detail about the recruitment and the future development in SAP.

The next section is an introduction of SAP Vocational Training program presented by VT manager Cherry. Cherry gave students an insight into the life in VT and the development of VT members by using a timeline.

After a short break, we proceeded to the most anticipating part of the day---the Labs Tour. The students were divided into three groups to visit the whole office under the guidance of Josie, Benny, Fiona from UA, Chen Yue from VT, and Adele from ET. They were showed around all the buildings, including DT space, Milestone wall, Coffee corner, Gym center and office area. The students were fascinated by the amazing facilities in DT space. After they realized what is “Design Thinking”, and what can we do in DT space, they desired to have a try. Maybe next time we can hold a DT workshop together with the boys and girls.

The activity ended with a pose for a group photo. Both the students from Tongji University and our colleagues had a pleasant experience to communicate with each other. Especially the young college students, knew more about the culture and life in SAP every day. Someone expressed strong desire to work in the company like SAP in the future.
