The University of California San Diego Extension just released its list of the hottest careers for college graduates:
- Software Developers, Applications
- Software Developers, Systems Software
- Accountants and Auditors
- Market Research Analysts and Marketing Specialists
- Cost Estimators
- Computer Network Architects
- Management Analysts
- Personal Financial Advisors
- Elementary School Teachers, except for Special Education
- Financial Analysts
So what do all of these things have in common? No, it’s not that they’re all “hot careers for college graduates.” Read between the lines and you will see a blend of technology and professional services.
In the future (and by “in the future” I really mean 15 minutes ago), all professional services companies will absolutely, positively, no-doubt-about-it have to embrace Big Data. In an industry that relies on accessing data to make crucial decisions, having the right information at your fingertips makes all the difference.
So basically, you have two choices: embrace big data or go out of business.
Now, I understand that change can be a painful proposition but it’s a lot easier if you make the right decisions in the planning process and for that you need a little expert help.
SAP literally has tons of experience helping professional service companies leverage big data into a winning strategy. Okay, experience is not “literally” measured in tons, but you know what I mean.
And yeah, I know what you’re thinking: elementary school teachers have nothing to do with technology or professional services. Fair enough. You got me on that one — sort of. That’s what all of that standardized testing is about. It’s not about torturing eight-year-olds (go ahead, you can chuckle). What I’m saying is that we don’t just collect data and put it in a drawer. Ask any millennial about Big Data and you’ll quickly learn that they are very comfortable discussing the impact on their education, their careers and the personal lives.
It’s very simple: you must embrace Big Data, you need to make the right decisions up front, you need expert advice, and SAP literally has tons of experience. Oh, and you have to do it or go out of business.
