Error 4 when loading external data
please help.
Thank You
Hi,
You can find many answers if you search the forum. Go through the following if it helps you.
"Error 4 when loading external data" occurs when invalid/special characters exist in the data. You can handle it in two ways.
1. If it is identified by BW system (like *&^%$ etc..) and it is acceptable, go to RSKC Transaction (List of permitted special characters), append the required character to the list and execute it.
2. If it is not identified by BW system, (It appears as '#' irrespective of the value). It has to be manually handled and edited in PSA.
Handling special characters in Master Data:
You can identify the record number in the Data Load Monitor - Details tab. Find out the record number, go to PSA and edit the respective record.
Handling special characters in Transaction Data:
If you are loading data to the Info Cube, error occurs during the data load. But when you are updating it to the ODS Object, the load will be successful but error occurs at the time of activation. The record number can be found in Load Monitor - Details tab. Right click on the error message line, click on display messages, then click on help (?). It will show the record number. Or you can find the error records by analyzing the jobs log.
To edit PSA data, first you have to delete the request from the data target, edit PSA data and reconstruct the request.

Hi,
' Error 4 when loading external data ' occurred when there are any Special Characters or Error records in your Data Source. So,Try to load data in PSA first, do the editing and load to the targets.

Hello,
Error 4 means file error.
Check details tab in RSMO transaction for your load.
Expand error nodes, you will find which record and which data is wrong.
then delete red request from data target. and change respective records from PSA and upload again.

Kannan
