unable to initialize ASPI manager

Hi to all

i am using ecc6.0 with win2003 and daily taking online backup at evening time . daily monday to friday online back up

UpdateStats

check database

InitTape

Whole database online + redo log backup

what is happing

UpdateStats

check database both are ok

but when init Tape is running it is showing error that is related to

0003 Error during initialization

it is showing

unable to initialize ASPI manager

while i am checking through command prompt level it is showing same error.

at command promt

Command output of 'mt -f /dev/mt0 rewind

unable to initialize ASPI manager

using NT tape support

opening '/dev/mt0': The system cannot find the file specified.

unable to initialize ASPI manager

while i am using HP tape c7972A tape and HP tape drive.

is there any problem related to ASPI manager.

is it software for tape drive.

Hi,

Please try cleanup for tape drive using cleanup tape.

check the required vol no. using

brbackup -q

Initialize the tape using

brbackup -c -i force -v <volume no>

rerun the backup.

can you tell me why should i go for creaning the tape drive ?

and if i clean that tape dive then i will insert new tape and will just initialize through DB13 then it will work .

or i have to go through command promt

as i am new for back up point of view please guide me

my problem has been resolved it was due to hardware error ....due to tape drive...

try to do a backup of a few files with MSBACKUP. this must work. if not, then, this is a Microsoft Windows or hardware/drivers issue, and not a Basis issue.

start -> Run -> MSBACKUP -> OK

search with keyword MSBACKUP on Google to learn how to use this.
