Differnce between BI and BO

Can somebody please explain what's the basic difference between BI and BO?

Hi,

If you are trying to understand the technical difference then BI/BW is the technological part where data is stored in data warehouse and highly analytical tools are made available for further analysis of this data.

BO further refines the analytical tools used to analye the data sitting in the data warehouse.

In a layman's term, BI/BW is where data, extracted from various applications, is sitting for further analysis... and BO is the front end tool that is used to analyze this data.

Business Intelligence	Business Objects
The analysis of hard business data to make informed and knowledge-based business and marketing decisions.	Business Objects is a brand of software solutions from SAP that includes products for both large and small enterprises.
Objectives of a BI exercise include:- (1) understanding of a firm's internal and external strengths and weaknesses, (2) understanding of the relationship between different data for better decision making, (3) Detection of opportunities for innovation (4) cost reduction and optimal deployment of resources.	The SAP Business Objects portfolio is so synonymous with BI that it is often used as a substitute in conversation. According to its product descriptions, main benefits of the Business Objects BI solutions include: real-time and accurate data, industry-specific data insights, top end business management solutions and strong tools for a "real-time approach to governance, risk, and compliance".
In BI we will perform ETL (extraction, transformation and loading) activities from different source systems for e.g.  flatfile or sap ecc 6.0 and then generate reports using BEx. for e.g. we can able to generate BEx reports on top of  infocubes, ods.	BO is completely an adhoc reporting tool where we can generate reports by connecting to respective database as per the requirement.  for e.g. we can able to generate reports on top of sap bi by creating universe on top of info cube or BEx query then generate reports in BO.
