SAP Disaster Recovery Plan

Hi

I am planning for SAP Disaster Recovery Site for our company. I want to confirm the following.

Is there any license require for the SAP installation on DR Site. If yes what is the cost?

1. What if we restore full AIX image ( including OS image + SAP binaries + SAP data ) from production server to DR server ? Will SAP at DR side will be up and ready or it will require some temporary licenses ( as SAP licenses are usually bind with hardware serial numbers )?

2. In case , we are replicating everything from production systems on Storage level ( SAN based replication )? Do we still require temporary keys from SAP to make SAP up and running at DR site ?

3. Can sap help us in identifying the filesystems ( beside SAP data filesystems) on AIX level which should be replicated on scheduled basis ( if we don't go for synchronous replication ) to move the changes in SAP configurations or Forms etc from production to DR?

Hi Syed,

The answers for your question is as below -

Is there any license require for the SAP installation on DR Site. If yes what is the cost?

No, you need not required to pay extra license amount for DR server. You can request license for new server with type "Backup System".

What if we restore full AIX image ( including OS image + SAP binaries + SAP data ) from production server to DR server ? Will SAP at DR side will be up and ready or it will require some temporary licenses ( as SAP licenses are usually bind with hardware serial numbers )?

This matters how your configuring your DR system, in above situation your dumping complete system(OSSAPDB), so the DR system will become exact replica of your production. You will get system conflict in the network with PRD, having same SID, hostname, system number etc. There is no matter of SAP license as you can not run both systems together. To diffrenciate two system, you need to keep above things diffrent.

In case , we are replicating everything from production systems on Storage level ( SAN based replication )? Do we still require temporary keys from SAP to make SAP up and running at DR site ?

Same as mentioned above, your both systems can not run at same time.

Can sap help us in identifying the filesystems ( beside SAP data filesystems) on AIX level which should be replicated on scheduled basis ( if we don't go for synchronous replication ) to move the changes in SAP configurations or Forms etc from production to DR?

The all matters based on how your configuring DR site. The SAP help you only if you follow databse log shipment technique, or oracle dataguard.

Mention your database and SAP version in, which can be helpful to provide you more alternative to fullfil your requirements.

Ramesh.
