EHPI startup failure - SL Controller exiting

Hi all,

We are running EHP1 upgrade.

While the installation is in process at postprocessing phase, I lost the remote connectivity to server. Now I am unable to start EHP installer again from the same lnstallation dir. It returns SL Controller exiting error.

Having gone through some other SDN posts, it appeared to be a problem with UAC. In our case we are using Win2003 and I already executed "change user /install" command to enable remote installation. In addition, the JCE 90000125.zip downloaded from SMP is also availabe in the inst. dir. I also tried with sun jce 1.5.0 but the error still persist.

Since EHPi comes with it's own JVM so the java version is irrelevant, please suggest if I missed out something.

Hi,

What command are you using to start EHP installer?

/STARTUP "jce_policy_zip=<policy zip archive>

This is correct if you're starting the upgrade tp EHPI for the first

time. This is needed because EHPI needs to extract some files to the

local directory.

As your upgrade is already running, the correct way to start the

controller is:

sidadm> ./STARTUP

This is explained on EHPI guide.

You can find this guide on:

- service.sap.com/instguides

- SAP NetWeaver -> SAP NetWeaver 7.0(2004s) -> Installation

- enhancement package installation guides -> OS-> Database

On this guide you can there are 2 sections:

- 5.1 - Starting the Installation Program

/<inst. dir.>/STARTUP "jce_policy_zip=<policy zip archive>

- 5.3 - Restarting the Installation Program

This chapter says:

"Procedure:

To restart the installation program, execute the startup script

from enhancement package installation directory:

/<installation directory>/STARTUP

Please try to start the controller again using the command:

/<installation directory>/STARTUP

Hi Aidan,

Thanks for the detailed response.

This is a windows installation so as the inst guide says we started ehpi from installation dir (suggested in the inst guide) using followin command:

startup "jce_policy_zip=c:\ehpi"

The first time all went well and installatino went flying until Postprocessing, this is where I lost remote connectivity and the session where ehpi was running was somehow not connecting, each connectivity attempt would open another session for

same user <sid>adm using remote desktop. After a reboot, we connected back and ran the following commands:

change user /install

(to enable remote installation mode)

and then to run ehp installer we tried:

<installation dir>:\ STARTUP

This would result in above error resulting a failure to connect to ehp installer. I have checked the bw system, it is upgraded to ehp1 SP7, but the post processing and finalization activities are still pending.

Hi,

Please attach the output from the following logs when you try to start EHPI:

SDTserver.log

server.trc

Can you please refer to note SAP note 1240081?

Also make sure you're using the correct version of SAPehpi.

Hi,

Please try to download the latest / redownload the jce policy zip

and try to run the step again.

Is the error in DSUservice.log/server.trc different

when you try to start EHPI with command:

<Drive>:\EHPI\STARTUP.BAT jce_policy_zip=<policy zip archive>

On the host where SAPehpi runs, this JVM is provided by the SL

Controller. If you start the GUI on a remote computer,

JVM 1.5 should be installed.

Hi Aidan,

This is local installation not a remote one, I am using remote desktop to carry out installation locally on the server. If not mistaken to restart an installtion the startup command does not require the jce policy file.

DSUService.log has no further info, following are the last few lines from the file:

Hi,

What version of SAPehpi are you using, depending on your version it may be helpful

to include the jce policy file in the startup command.

For the error reported:

I think you should uninstall and reinstall your JDK + jurisdiction

polices.

This error message is caused by the fact that the jurisdiction policy

files are missing in your system (or the wrong ones have been

installed).

This error is normally solved by downloading the latest or redownloading

the policy zip as per note 1240081. I see that you have already checked

the note. What did you do, downloading again the policy zip? Could you

I'll proceed with installation guide manually since the system is upgraded passing downtime successfully.

p.s. The installer started simply by right click --> Open on STARTUP.BAT. This way, SL successfully started at port 4239 without causing the above issue.

If you refer to the latest EHP guide and using the latest EPHI, you dont need to specify the JCE if you start via dsugui..
