hi friends,
I am little bit confuse about the use of infosource[in rsa1],because without using it we can perform extraction.
Therefore I want to know what would be the exact scenario where it is used in BI 7.0
thanks,
ravi
The DataSource is connected to the target by means of an InfoSource. There is one transformation between the DataSource and the InfoSource and one transformation between the InfoSource and the target.
We recommend that you use an InfoSource if you want to connect a number of different DataSources to a target and the different DataSources have the same business rules. In the transformation, you can align the format of the data in DataSource with the format of the data in the InfoSource. The required business rules are applied in the subsequent transformation between the InfoSource and the target. You can make any changes to these rules centrally in this one transformation, as required.
We recommend that you use this type of data flow if your data flow not only contains two different sources, but the data is to be written to multiple identical (or almost identical) targets. The required business rules are executed in the central transformation so that you only have to modify the one transformation in order to change the business rules. You can connect sources and targets that are independent of this transformation.

Hi Ravi,
As mentioned above Info-source is Mandatory in 3.5 flow and optional in 7 flow. Major differences are explained above.
In SAP BW 7.3 version while defining Semantic Partition Object(SPO) Infosource will be created automatically to update the data into different targets.

Hi Ravi,
You can perform extraction in BI 7.0 without infosource.
But still you can infosource in BI 7.0 if you want to connect a number of different DataSources to a target and the different DataSources have the same business rules. In this case you will have only 1 transformation between the infosurce & target and you can make any changes to this transformation as required.

Hi Ravi,
info source is used in 3.x version and it is mandatory in it, whereas it is optional in BI 7.0 version
The main purpose of infosource is, if you want to apply transformations at a time for multiple targets from data source,in such a scenario we prefer it,

Hi Ravi,
An InfoSource is a quantity of information that logically belong together, summarized into a single unit.
It is used for data flow in bw 7.4

Hi Ravi,
In BI 7.0, Infosources are used for joining transformations.
It is a virtual structure consisting of infoobjects which help in joining transformations.
Suppose you want to perform transformation(Say T1) on data present in different data sources(PSA), then you can perform transformations(T1) on data present in all sources and accumulate data structure in Infosource.
Now you can perform required transformation(T2) on the collected data and load to target fields.

Hi Ravi,
in BW3.5 it is mandatory to use infosource but in BI7.0 it is optional.

Hi,
Infosources are mostly used in 3.x
Actually, it is still necessary if you want to keep your datasources as 3.x datasources, but then you’re dealing with 3.x infosources.
In BW 7, they can be used to to structure your data flow:
- making two transformations instead of one. Of course one could do an expert routine
- applying the same logic to different sources/targets
