Hi, colleges!
I do the EHP6 upgrade of our ERP system.
SAPup is in Preprocessing stage.
But MAIN_SHDIMP/SUBMOD_SHDIMP/SHADOW_IMPORT_INC phase is running more 24 hours.
Logs generation stopped many hours ago. I can see some R3trans processes are running but no CPU utilization consumed.
I can see only one process working more or less intense is javaw.exe.
OS : Windows 2008 R2 server
DB: Oracle 11.2.3
ERP 6 EHP6 upgrading.
I restarted SAPup but it cams down at the same point after importing some objects (SAPK-731BCINSAPBASIS_11468_11468_016490 package file)
My questions are
1) What wrong and/or how long should I wait for finishing of the process?
2) Can I increase performance of the process (i.e., can i add r3trans process quantity or something else at the stage?)
3) Shadows instance is needs to run this phase? because shadows instance is stopped.
Any suggestions are welcome!!!
Thank you!
Hello,
Please check the following note which tells you how to increase the no. of R3trans process.
During the phase SHADOW_IMPORT_INC, please check the values of the parameters
mainimp_proc and parallel and set the values accordingly. This will help increase the performance duirng this phase.
1616401 – How many R3trans process are forked during the import.

Hello,
Thank you very much for your answers.
I run SAPup SP04. The source release of our sap system is SAP ERP 6.0 EHP5 SP07.
But I confused how can i change mainimp_proc and parallel parameters if SAPup is already running and at the phase Shadow_IMPORT_INC? What parameter file should i change? SHALLIMP.TPP or SAPup.par?
Please provide some instructions!
Hello Igor,
You will have to change the values of parallel and mainimp_proc in the profile SHDALLIMP.TPP in
the /abap/bin directory.
The value of mainimp_proc is generally fixed to 2 in SAPup.par (you do not need to change it!!, it is set by default)
The upgrade phase must be terminated to change this value. If not please kill the r3trans process.
I hope this informaiton helps.
Let me know.
Regards,
Sandhya

Error :
SAPup broke during phase SUBMOD_SHD2_RUN/RUN_RSPTBFIL_SELBASVIEW in module MAIN_SHDIMP / Shadow Import
Error Message: RFC error system SOL nr 00 function 'SUBST_START_REPORT_IN_BATCH' failed with code 5 key NO_BATCH_SERVICE: ID:PO Type:E Number:238
Solution :
From looking into the system, usually the error can occur due to an
inconsistency in the host name (for example, case sensitive). Please
check the following:
-The hostnames in SM51.
-The hostnames in \etc\hosts if multiple entries for the hostname
exists.
-The physical hostname on OS-level.

I had this problem and found out that the oracle was using 100% of the disk space because of the archive logs.
You can remove all archive logs (make sure you have backups in case you need to restore something later in case of a failed backup or crash) from /oracle/<sid>/oraarch.
I used "rm -R *" in this folder.
The oracle system freezes in this situation but the db is still up. When you remove the files, it takes a while but the execution later continues by itself (give it like 5 minutes and double check).

Hello All,
As per the the sap note 1738989 , the long inactive run of SHADOW_IMPORT_INC step in SUM/Ehpi/SPAM is known Bug of Oracle 11g.
Either
apply SAP Bundle patch as per sap note 1635605
or
set oracle parameter "_use_zero_copy_io=false" with Database restart -> SAP system restart -> SUM/Ehpi restart .
It will solve the issue.

Hi, Colleges.
I have resolved the problem. So strange behaviour of SUM was explained by absence of interim Oracle patches. I have installed last patch set 5 and all interim patches and the installation have finished successfully.
Thank you very much for your help.

Hello Rasesh,
Thanks for reply,
I start to used SUM for this upgrade but i find out SUM can used for upgrade sap installation from 7.0 to 7.3. it just can used for 7.1 to 7.3. I think just for pi upgrade is possible.
So i did start again with sapup and now I have the same problem. I am on phase
"main_shdimp/submod_shdimp/shadow_import_upg2" and that run for 25 hour.
So i did treid.
Thanks

Thanks again for any help.
I suggest you have a look at the thread

This is a good one .
For the phase SHADOW_IMPORT_INC, the TPP file is SHDALLIMP.TPP .
Check increasing the R3trans processes does make any difference.

Hi ,
Shadow system will be down at this moment .This phase is responsible for importing thedata provided in the suppot packs and addons into the shadow system. Please letme know which tool you are using. Is it SUM tool or EHPI tool . What is the source release from which you are starting the upgrade.
Regards,
Varun.
