Error message WE216 - The EAN xxxxxxxxx may not be assigned externally

Hi All ,

I have configured an external number range in WE4N in SPRO.I have then assigned it to an EAN Category.

But when allocating a number from the number range defined , the system is giving following error message

The EAN 101586007410950000 may not be assigned externally

Message no. WE216

Diagnosis

You have entered an EAN or a UPC to which no external number range interval is assigned.

This error may occur

  • if only an internal interval or if no interval exists for the number you have entered
  • if you have entered an alphanumeric EAN, and this number belongs to a number range interval of a number category for which no alphanumeric EANs are permitted

Procedure

Enter a valid number.

Kindly advice of how this can be corrected.

Thanks.

Hi ,

I have found the cause of the issue for this error message WE216.

This happened because if we want to configure 14 digit EAN code , then we have to maintain number range of only 13 digit in SPRO. The last digit will be as per "check digit algorithm".

This is when you are going to use Check digit algorithm functionality.

If you are not using "Check digit algorithm functionality", then configure full 14 digits as system is simply going to accept whatever number you input.

Thanks.
