The difference between HANA Client and HANA Studio? Do we have to install both clients?
Thanks!
HANA Client is the piece of software which enables you to connect any other entity, including Non-Native applications to a HANA server. This "other" entity can be, say, an NW Application Server, an IIS server..etc. The HANA Client installation also provides JDBC, ODBC drivers. This enables applications written in .Net, Java..etc to connect to a HANA server, and use the server as a remote database. So, consider client as the primary connection enabler to HANA server.
Coming to HANA Studio, it is integrated development environment (IDE) that is used to develop artifacts in a HANA server. These artifacts may be Extended Application Services (XS), data modelling, or anything else that can be developed in HANA. However, to connect to the HANA server and develop, this IDE (HANA Studio) will need HANA client installed. HANA Studio, by itself, is just a development program, much like Visual Studio... but it is the installed HANA Client, that actually enables the HANA studio to make connection to the server.
All this is done using a program named "regi.exe" (Short form for Repository Git), that is part of HANA client installation. So, after you install HANA Studio, you will have to go to studio settings, and specify the location of "regi.exe".

You will be using HANA Studio for your modeling/development. HANA client is used to synchronize your development objects with HANA Repository (server). You will have to install both clients and configure HANA Studio to use the HANA Client.

Close...
The client package includes the regi tool which currently is called by SAP HANA studio to provide the repository access for the development perspective.
If you don't use this, then SAP HANA studio is fully self contained and doesn't require the client package at all.
The other way around there is even less dependencies: regardless of SAP HANA studio being installed on the local computer the client software is fully functional.

Hi Kevin,
the HANA Client is the "driver", need for connecting to HANA.
The HANA Studio is for modeling queries etc on HANA.

Yes, We need to install the client and the studio. Without the client the studio will not be able to access the repository objects..
visit open.sap.com and attend the week 1 session , it will give you more clarity..
