SAP Process Integration Designer issue

Hi All -

In NWDS 731 - SAP Enhancement Package 1 for SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio 7.3 SP01 PAT0000.

We've got a dual stack PI installation.

I went to Windows - preferences - PI tool configuration  and set the info for ID connectivity.

Test connection is ok

When I go to SAP Process Integration Designer perspective I can't Logg in saying SAP Process integration Designer is supported for AEX usage type from release 7.31 onwards.

Is this exclusive for Java installation only? Does someone have some tip here?

Regards,

Diego

Hello Diego,

You are correct: currently Process Integration Designer perspective of NWDS is not intended to be used for dual-stack installations of PI 7.31, it can be used only for Java-only installations of PI 7.31 (meaning, AEX or PO).

One of core views of the Process Integration Designer perspective - PI Explorer - is used for maintaining Integration Flows (iFlows) that are specificly available in Java-only installations of PI 7.31 and are not available in dual-stack PI 7.31. This may explain correlation with unavailability of Process Integration Designer for dual-stack PI 7.31.

Ok Vladim. Thank you for clarifying that.

It means while you work on dual stack environment (My current project is dual stack), even though, we can have BPM and BRM on other SID we can't improve our PO skills?

Another question Vladim, please, Is there many differences having PI dual stack in one SID and BRM and BPM in another SID comparing with PO (PI+BRM+BPM) on the same SID? To deploy BPM when we are in the same SID is much easier than to have the BPM in different SID, correct? Do you know more differences?

Hi Diego,

Well, taking into account that PO can be roughly considered as AEX + BRM + BPM, but in one installation, if you already have BRM and BPM in a separate installation, it is a good opportunity to improve BRM/BPM skills that would be applicable for PO. It should be noted that PO re-uses NetWeaver BRM and BPM concept and engines underneath - thus, knowledge and practical skills gained from working with NetWeaver BRM and BPM are very welcome for PO developer/consultant.

Regarding your second question, PO usage of BRM and BPM is enhanced with integration specific aspects (e.g. model elements in BPM in PO contain those elements that are relevant for application integration) even though the core part is still similar or even the same - thus, the way how process is deployed and executed at runtime remains. What is very important for PO - is tight coupling of these three engines (AEX, BRM and BPM). Meaning, it is possible to call BPM models deployed on the other BPM system and that is OK, but if you would like to benefit from close interaction of functions implemented in AEX and BRM/BPM, it would be advised to utilize PO, but not a standalone BPM system together with dual-stack PI system.

Hi Vadim,

we have an scenary with a SAP PI dual stack 7.31 installation without BRM and BRL, so we make a new system just with this components.

the current version of SAP PI is 7.31 support package 09, and we try to connect from NWDS 7.3 SP 17, when we try to connect to integration directory we get this message "process integration designer is supported for aex usage from 7.31 ".

So we need to know if we must add into our current BRM + BRL server the AEX to could get the connection with the integration directory overpassing our SAP PI 7.31 current installation

Hello,

As it was discussed earlier, Process Integration Designer perspective in NWDS is applicable for installation options that contain AEX - which means, AEX and PO/PRO at the moment. There are features in AEX/PO, which are not available in dual stack installation (as written earlier, for example, iFlows), which makes it impossible to use the discussed NWDS perspective in non-AEX/PO installation options.

Regarding adding AEX to an existing BRM installation, I don't think it is possible and supported. It is possible to install BPM/BRM on top of existing AEX installation, but I'm not aware of supported ways of doing the opposite (installing AEX on top of existing BPM/BRM installation).

Another note is, please pay attention to versions and SP levels of the AEX/PO system and NWDS that are used, there are certain rules that would help you to avoid incompatibility issues. Please have a look at the blog written by that provides good summary and recommendations on this topic. Following given recommendations, NWDS 7.31 (with appropriate SP level) shall be used if you would like to connect to AEX/PO 7.31.

Regards,

Vadim
