In /Sybase/SID/ASE..../install....SID.Log

At first glance it looks as if the port 4901 could already be in use - check poutput of netstat -a -t -n.

SAPINST does check whether a port is in use during the dialogue phase, but if it gets ocupied later then you are in trouble.

Is there a second ASE server configured on the same host whcih maybe uses this port  ?

Dear Tilman

Thanks for the reply...I have checked the output of netstat but I cannot find port 4901...

Further...this is first installation on the machine...No additional ASE...

Also I tried to reinstall with a different port number but the error remains the same....
