LiveCache Backup Strategy

Former Member

What is the strategy to backup a livecache. I know it can be done through RSLVCBACKUP with variants.

But what is the recommended procedure?

Should I use SM36 or dba planning calendar to automate the livecache backup?

What is the strategy to be adopted for full, incremental backups i.e. daily, weekly etc?

Thx. Points to be rewarded for any kind of small help.

Hi Abdul,

Yes, you can backup livecache using RSLVCBACKUP with variants. I think u better use SM36 to automate the livecache backup.

Strategy, i cannot tell u the statndard strategy, but can give u the strategy used in our proj.

We do Online backup (incremental) every 8 hours, whcih might not be required for every proj (depends on changing the data volume). Anyways you will have redo logs available so any time u can restore if something happens to sytemduring these 8 hours.and we do offline backup weekly once at database level.

This might be helpful.

Regards,

Jagadeesh.

Pls reward points if it is helpful.

Thanks for the info. I have few queries.

1- How is a database structure check and consistency check performed?.

2- Should this be performed before backup or after backup?

3- I read in one OSS# 385808, which talks about checkpoints before backup with report /sapapo/om_checkpoint_write.

4- Can anybody provide the steps to be performed in a structured way?

(I mean checkpoint, then db check, then backup, then post-backup steps etc).

I need a step by step procedure.

Thanks a ton, in advance.
