After implementing new kernel I noticed during startup(I checked and /usr/sap/tmp exists/dev_coll.tmp) :

Starting SAP-Collector Daemon

-

open logfile '/usr/sap/tmp/dev_coll.tmp' failed... use stderri

22:31:59 27.09.2007 ERROR: cannot open log file /usr/sap/tmp/dev_coll.tmp

22:31:59 27.09.2007 ERROR: Make sure directory /usr/sap/tmp exists or specify DIR_PERF

22:31:59 27.09.2007 ERROR: in profile and run saposcol pf=<profile>

saposcol already running

What could be the reason?

Did you execute "saproot.sh <SID>" after you applied the kernel and before your started the instance?

There can be also problem with wrong permission set for this file (/usr/sap/tmp/dev_coll.tmp) for starting saposcol also members of group sapsys

(or whatewer which your sapuser belongs to) should have permission

to write in this file.
