Hi.
We are running DB2 9.5 on AIX 5.3. Our system is a central system (no separate application servers) and we are getting the ZDATE_LARGE_TIME_DIFF short dump. It started tonight at around 02:15, even though there is no daylight savings time adjustment in Norway now. The time zone in Norway is CET+1. The following information is contained in the short dump:
There is a significant time difference between the local time of the
application server and the database time.
The SAP system cannot function correctly under these circumstances.
Time difference between database and application server..."See former similar
dump: 3600" s
Local time zone..........................................."See former similar

Local time in internal format.............................1206691559
Database time............................................."See former similar

get the error corrected immediately.
The following environment variables are set:
For user db2sid:
TZ=CET-1CEST,M3.5.0,M10.5.0
For user sidadm:
TZ=CET-1CEST,M3.5.0,M10.5.0
The time zone settings on AIX level are this:
Standard Time ID(only alpahabets) [CET]
Standard Time Offset from CUT([+|-]HH:MM:SS) [-1]
Day Light Savings Time ID(only alpahabets) [CEST]
Day Light Savings Time Offset from CUT([+|-]HH:MM: [] SS)
Start Daylight Savings Day([Mmm.ww.dd|Jn]) [M3.5.0]
Start Daylight Savings Time(HH:MM:SS) []
Stop Daylight Savings Day([Mmm.ww.dd|Jn]) [M10.5.0]
Stop Daylight Savings Time(HH:MM:SS) []
Do you have any idea what may be causing this issue?
Best regards,
Eivind
Hi.
We upgraded to AIX 5.3 TL7 SP3 (which contains the APAR mentioned) and the problem was fixed.

Eivind.

I have the same problem but with oracle db.
The problem was solved by AIX patch.

Thank you for the input. We opened an OSS-message and received the following reply, we are working on implementing this APAR now:
Hello,
There is a known BC-OP-AIX problem with ZDATE_LARGE_TIME_DIFF dumps.
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=isg1IZ11729
Solution is AIX 5.3 TL7 SP2
I'll confirm if this solved our issue when the APAR has been implemented.
Best regards,
Eivind.

Hi.
This is a central system, so the sapttz report will not help. Also the note is not valid, the problem is not that we are not getting the short dump messages, but rather that we are literally swimming in them:)

Hi,
i know that you are using Central System ( Central Instance and DB instance on same host)
but there is time difference between OS time and SAP System Time
check the timezone settings according to SAP Note 481835 - Analyzing the time zone settings
also check Note 102088 - Reducing downtime when changing from summer to winter time

kaushal

Our customer is currently having same problem. The time on which problem appeared is about the same as Eivind stated in first original posting. Our customer has AIX too, but DB is Oracle. In this case, a Central system is also in question (QAS system).
Please update this thread if you manage to solve the problem.

Hi,
Use the tool sapttz to check that the technical characteristics of the time zones in your SAP system.
it's attached to sap note Note 398374 - Problems when converting summer time <-> winter time
also check Note 1016023 - No ZDATE_LARGE_TIME_DIFF runtime error

kaushal
