Three and half years ago, developer evangelist, Craig Cmehil hosted the first SAP CodeJam event in Berlin as an experiment to see how we could bring together SAP experts and developers in the community while providing an environment where everyone could learn, connect and have fun. Since then, over 400 events have taken place all over the world and we are excited to see our program continuing to grow and expand while allowing you to test drive SAP platforms and tools with the help of the experts.

SAP CodeJam Stats 2012 - 2016

Top Three Topics of the Year

SAP CodeJam is designed to focus on a single topic, allowing participants to get familiar with one specific SAP platform or technology at a time. Here are the top three requested topics of the year so far:

  • SAP with IoT
  • SAP HANA Cloud Platform
  • SAPUI5

You can find a complete list of available topics here: http://go.sap.com/developer/events/code-jam.html

What are the Experts Saying?

Our SAP CodeJam experts are the backbone of our events. Find out why they enjoy being an expert and new interesting facts about the topics they specialize in:

craig.cmehil – SAP with IoT:

“IoT is such an encompassing term that for me to be able to go into a room full of people and start to not only talk about it but to show them live with hands on access to hardware that it’s not an unapproachable or impossible area to work with is truly rewarding! On multiple occasions during SAP CodeJam events over the past 2 years I’ve had so many people come to me with the “ah ha” moment or the look on their face and say “I’ve got it now!” So many times someone has emailed me later saying I now get the Arduino or Raspberry Pi, something they’ve had laying around but never knew what to do with. It’s one of the most exciting spaces we have in our field and the fact that it’s been around for decades already means that now the hardware is more reachable and more prominent! I have my own small warehouse of “toys” which has already surpassed the items that I have for SAP and I’m amazed daily and what is now available that years ago would have been impossible or simply too expensive!”

vladimir.pavlov – SAP HANA Cloud Platform:

“Indeed HCP is one of the hottest topics around SAP presently, we see a huge interest and demand for it in the ecosystem and it is growing with new features and services being released. Recently we added support for Cloud Foundry as beta service which should give developers even more flexibility in terms of developing apps in their preferred programming language. Also, several new HANA services were made available on HCP – e.g. Smart Data Streaming, Smart Data Integration, Data Quality Management for location data. For more news and up-to-date information about HCP, I would recommend to follow the Release Notes as well as the HCP Podcast.”

denise.nepraunig.sap – SAPUI5

“Personally I really enjoyed being an expert at these events. You are able to visit new and interesting cities and get to know a lot of great people. CodeJams are one of the best things SAP has to offer – getting together, learning something new in a casual environment with free food and without any additional costs for the participants is great. There are always a lot of tutorials about certain topics so you can easily get lost in all this information. Most time “getting started” is the hardest part. So it is great that you can jump-start into a certain topics with your fellow eager learners. So I am very happy that I could help a lot of people to overcome those first hurdles!

What’s new? With the upcoming release of SAPUI5 1.40, there will be support for the new theme “Belize”, which is part of Fiori 2.0. With the current SAPUI5 1.38 release there has been an initial release of the OData v4 support."

In the meantime, I recommend everyone to have a look at the following tutorials:

What are People Saying?

Feedback is very essential to us as it helps us grow and improve future SAP CodeJam events. Here is what our attendees have to say about us this year:

“It was a learning experience for me, I have no background in coding but I could grasp everything and having a good teacher was a bonus.”

“Great event with a very thoughtful organizational team. Wonderful to meet so many colleagues and brainstorm with them.”

“I really liked the organization and that the teachers were watching our every step and were there to answer any questions and problems with enthusiasm. “

Not sure what SAP CodeJam is?

SAP CodeJam is a 5 to 6 hours event where a small group of developers get together for an afternoon of networking, learning, and coding in an ultra-casual environment all for free. Attendees get a chance to share and expand their knowledge and collaboratively develop with SAP technologies, platforms and tools under the watchful guidance of an expert. The events are developer community focused and supported by SAP, exploring technologies available through the SAP Developer Center.
