Two months ago I blogged about the beta test for new Simple Sample Applications featuring SAP NetWeaver Business Process Management (SAP NetWeaver BPM) technology and sent an invite to the SAP Community to participate. The response once more widely exceeded our expectations: More than 60 SAP Community members worldwide registered for the BPM sample beta test. The feedback was very positive; it clearly demonstrated that BPM samples add value by making the synergy of BPM and SOA tangible for customers and developers. We were able to incorporate most of the ideas for improvement into the final Simple Sample Apps portfolio. A warm Thank You to all who helped us make this happen!

For those of you who are new to the topic: SAP NetWeaver BPM is SAP’s solution for SOA-based business process composition. With SAP NetWeaver BPM, customers can model, implement and execute their own practices as process steps, business rules and process flows according to an industry-standard notation. Thanks to SOA and enterprise services, interaction with running processes is easy since it‘s enabled via a multitude of individual, state-of-the-art user interfaces.

SAP NetWeaver BPM is available together with SAP NetWeaver Business Rules Management (BRM) as of Enhancement Package 1 of SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment (SAP NetWeaver CE) 7.1. A new release with major enhancements is planned to be available with SAP NetWeaver CE 7.2 at the end of 2009, so stay tuned. The combination of SAP NetWeaver BPM tools and enterprise services is an exclusive and unmatched offering from SAP, since it unleashes the full capabilities of a Business Process Platform via one-stop shopping.

Effective immediately, SAP has released a new package of Simple Sample Applications using SAP NetWeaver BPM technology. AS usual, SAP customers and partners find them ready-to-run in the Enterprise Services Workplace (ES Workplace) environment in the well-known format - together with technical documentation, process models, coding, and demo data. The new apps implement the following business process steps:

  • Approve Sales Order Change Request
  • Approve Purchase Requisition and Create Purchase Order
  • Manage Leave Request
  • Unexpected Returns Handling
  • Phase In Equipment

The new Simple Sample Apps using SAP NetWeaver BPM were also presented on this year’s SAP TechEd in Phoenix and Vienna. For those of you who missed this, the BPM260 hands-on session will be available as part of this year’s Virtual SAP TechEd package.

Together with these first BPM sample apps we released another four apps plus the first two apps based on SAP Web Dynpro ABAP technology. By this, our Simple Sample Apps portfolio now offers demo apps for all four major consumption technologies supported by SAP NetWeaver: Visual Composer, Web Dynpro Java, Web Dynpro ABAP, and BPM.

Going forward, we ask for your contribution and ideas to continuously improve our Simple Sample Apps portfolio. You can share your experiences and post your questions in the related SAP Business Process Management. You may also watch out for a permanent feedback form which will be added soon to the entry pages of Simple Sample Apps.
